Fruit - Allergy Free Desserts

For many years, people living gluten free didn't have many options for dessert, other than fruit.

Fruit can be a good part of the diet, if it has never been overdone.

 

Acids in some fruits can cause stomach problems, much like gluten can. This leads to pain and discomfort when eating fruit, especially on an empty stomach. For the first few months of healing on a gluten free diet, avoid acidic fruits.

There are a few fruity desserts that may appeal to people after their body has healed. They are safe, as long as the person is not also fructose intolerant, which commonly goes along with gluten and lactose intolerance.

Bananas are one of the most easily digested fruits and can be eaten raw.

Others generally need to be heated to create chemical changes to allow the body to digest them. Gentler fruits such as apples, peaches, and some berries can be easily heated and enjoyed.

Two common dangers of fruit: fructose intolerance and diverticulitis. Both may cause severe discomfort and further complicate preexisting medical conditions.
