Ice Cream - Allergy Free Desserts

Ice cream is a treat people often forget to check for food allergies. How many times after living gluten free did I forget that ice cream sandwiches are not gluten free? Or cookies and cream, or so many other favorites?

There is concern when buying ice cream out at a restaurant. In some cases, it's okay. The ice cream is gluten and lactose free.

Until customers add other ingredients. Those scoops, or machines used to make shakes and other treats, may not be cleaned between uses. They may be covered with gluten, lactose, and fructose from candy bars, cookies, fruits, and other treats.

There are gluten and lactose free rice, almond, and soy ice creams available. They are expensive. No more expensive than the same amount of ice cream at a restaurant. I buy the vanilla flavor and create my own flavors that are rare, even in lactose ice cream.

And yes, some people eat coconut ice cream. Since I cannot, I have no idea of its consistency or taste. Verify allergies (especially anaphylaxis) to coconut before using.
